Segment 1 - 8.87 miles
The American River Relay course starts at Beal’s Point, on the shore of Folsom Lake. As the American River spills out of Folsom Dam, the course also cascades downstream, following the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail along the north bank of Lake Natoma, eventually crossing Hazel Ave. to Nimbus Fish Hatchery, the end of Segment 1.
Segment 2 - 6.65 miles
From Nimbus Fish Hatchery, runners wind their way through oak woodlands and underneath the Fair Oaks Bridge, the picturesque footbridge pictured on their race bib. The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail follows the edge of the American River to Hagan Community Park, the end of Segment 2.
Segment 3 - 7.95 miles
After winding through the shade at River Bend Park, runners cross the American River on Harold Richey Memorial Bridge to William B. Pond park. A fast straightaway past Rio Americano High School and under Watt Ave. and Howe Ave. brings runners to Guy West Bridge, a footbridge resembling the Golden Gate and marking the end of Segment 3.
Segment 4 - 5.21 miles
After cruising under the H St. Bridge, runners take on the gravel levee past Glenn Hall Park and Paradise Beach. Crossing under the Capitol City Freeway and the adjacent railroad bridge, runners hop on the paved Two Rivers Trail to Sutter’s Landing Regional Park. The Two Rivers Trail deposits runners on 28th St. next to the Sutter’s Landing Dog Park. After taking a right on C St., then a left on 23rd St., runners arrive at the final turn of the course. A left on J St. brings runners to the finish line in front of Fleet Feet Sacramento.
The American River Relay course tours the most scenic sections of the American River Parkway, following the river as it winds its way through hills, woodlands, and scenic river bars.
